Captivating and unmistakable, the Montezuma Oropendola (Psarocolius montezuma) is a crown jewel of Central American birdlife. Inhabiting lowland rainforests and plantations from southern Mexico to Panama, it boasts a dramatic chestnut body, jet-black wings, and a flash of bright yellow on its tail. A patch of pale blue facial skin and a vivid, yellow-tipped orange bill complete its exotic look. Equally fascinating are its unique, bubbling calls and the massive woven nests that drape from the canopy. As opportunistic foragers, they feed on everything from fruits and nectar to insects and small vertebrates.
