The Red-legged Honeycreeper (Cyanerpes cyaneus) is a small, brilliantly colored tropical songbird found throughout Central and South America. The male is especially striking, with vivid blue plumage, a contrasting black facial mask, bright red legs, and a slender, slightly curved bill adapted for feeding on nectar, fruits, and small insects. Females are more subdued, with greenish plumage that provides camouflage in forest vegetation. In Costa Rica, this species inhabits tropical forests, forest edges, gardens, and plantations, often visiting flowering trees and fruiting plants. Its specialized feeding behavior and dazzling coloration make it one of the most attractive honeycreepers in the region.
