The Gray Hawk (Buteo plagiatus) is a slender, medium-sized raptor found in open woodlands, forest edges, and river valleys throughout Costa Rica, particularly in the northwestern lowlands and other dry regions. Adults are distinguished by their pale gray plumage, finely barred underparts, and striking black-and-white banded tail. They typically perch quietly while scanning for prey before making swift, low flights to capture lizards, snakes, large insects, small birds, and rodents.
I spotted this Gray Hawk near the Tárcoles River.
灰鹰（Buteo plagiatus）是一种体型修长的中型猛禽，广泛分布于哥斯达黎加的开阔林地、森林边缘和河谷地带，尤以西北部低地及其他较干旱地区最为常见。成鸟具有淡灰色羽毛、细密的横斑腹部，以及醒目的黑白相间尾羽横带。它们通常静静栖息在高处，耐心观察周围环境，一旦发现猎物，便会迅速低空俯冲，捕食蜥蜴、蛇类、大型昆虫、小型鸟类和啮齿动物。
我在塔尔科莱斯河（Tárcoles River）附近发现的这只灰鹰。
