The Tropical Royal Flycatcher (Onychorhynchus coronatus) is one of Costa Rica’s most spectacular lowland forest birds, famous for its showstopping, fan-shaped crest. Normally kept flat, this “crown” is rarely seen in the wild, flashing open only during territorial defense, courtship, or when the bird is threatened. When displaying, they will even sway their heads in a mesmerizing, snake-like motion. Yet, despite waiting patiently for hours in the deep, mosquito-ridden forest, the spectacular crest remained hidden from my sight.
皇霸鹟（学名：Onychorhynchus coronatus）是哥斯达黎加低地森林中最引人瞩目的鸟类之一，它的扇形冠羽令人叹为观止。这顶“皇冠”平时紧贴头部，在野外极难一见，只有在捍卫领地、求偶或受到威胁时才会瞬间绽放。它们展冠时，甚至会像蛇一样迷人地左右摇摆头部。然而，即便我在蚊虫肆虐的深林中耐心守候了数小时，却终究未能亲眼目睹那惊艳一瞬的“皇冠”绽放。
