Toucans – Splendid Birds in Costa Rica (April 2026) 巨嘴鸟 – 哥斯达黎加的美丽鸟 (2026 年 4 月）

Costa Rica hosts six toucan species (family Ramphastidae), ranking among the world’s top destinations for photographing these striking tropical birds. With oversized, colorful bills, vivid plumage, and lively personalities, toucans are prime subjects for wildlife photographers.

Inhabiting Central and South American rainforests and cloud forests, they add brilliant color to the canopy. Their large yet lightweight bills aid in reaching fruit on slender branches and serve in social displays. Primarily frugivorous, they also eat insects, small reptiles, and eggs. Often seen in pairs or small groups, toucans are energetic and charismatic, making every sighting a memorable photographic opportunity.

The six Costa Rican species are: Keel-billed Toucan, Yellow-throated Toucan, Emerald Toucanet, Collared Aracari, Fiery-billed Aracari, and Yellow-eared Toucanet. On this trip, I photographed four of them.

哥斯达黎加栖息着六种巨嘴鸟（Ramphastidae），堪称全球拍摄这些艳丽热带鸟类的顶级目的地之一。巨嘴鸟以其硕大而色彩斑斓的喙、鲜艳的羽毛和活泼灵动的个性，成为野生动物摄影师钟爱的拍摄对象。

巨嘴鸟生活在中南美洲的热带雨林和云雾林中，为林冠层增添了一抹亮丽色彩。巨大却轻盈的喙不仅方便它们在细枝上取食果实，也用于社交展示。巨嘴鸟主要以水果为食，同时也捕食昆虫、小型爬行动物和鸟蛋。它们常成对或小群活动，性情活泼、魅力十足，每一次出现在镜头前都是难忘的拍摄体验。

哥斯达黎加的六种巨嘴鸟分别是：彩虹巨嘴鸟、黄喉巨嘴鸟、绿巨嘴鸟、领簇舌巨嘴鸟、火嘴簇舌巨嘴鸟和黄耳巨嘴鸟。此次行程中，我拍到了其中四种。

Keel-billed toucan (Ramphastos sulfuratus) — the iconic “rainbow-billed” toucan and one of the most photographed birds in Costa Rica.

彩虹巨嘴鸟（学名 Ramphastos sulfuratus）— 具标志性的“彩虹色巨喙”，是哥斯达黎加最具代表性、也是最受野生动物摄影师追捧的鸟类之一。

Emerald Toucanet (Aulacorhynchus prasinus) — a smaller highland species often found in cloud forests.

翡翠巨嘴鸟（学名 Aulacorhynchus prasinus）—一种体型较小的高山巨嘴鸟，常见于云雾森林中。

Collared Aracari (Pteroglossus torquatus) — a lively, social species frequently seen in groups.

领饰巨嘴鸟（学名 Pteroglossus torquatus）— 一种活泼而善于社交的物种，经常可以看到它们成群活动。

Fiery-billed Aracari (Pteroglossus frantzii) — a regional specialty found mainly on Costa Rica’s Pacific slope.

火嘴巨嘴鸟（学名 Pteroglossus frantzii）—哥斯达黎加特有的区域性鸟种，主要分布于该国太平洋沿岸的森林地区。
