The Collared Whitestart (Myioborus torquatus), also known as the Collared Redstart, is a small, vibrant warbler endemic to the mountain forests of Costa Rica and western Panama . Typically around 13 cm long, it has a striking appearance with a chestnut crown, black forehead, slate-gray upperparts, and a bright yellow face and underparts . Its name comes from its black tail with white edges; “start” is an old English word for tail . It feeds on insects, often fanning its tail while foraging, and joins mixed flocks .
