The Baltimore Oriole (Icterus galbula) is one of North America’s most striking songbirds, instantly recognizable by the male’s brilliant orange-and-black plumage. During the non-breeding season, many migrate to Central America, including Costa Rica, where they brighten gardens, forest edges, and open woodlands. Females display softer yellow-orange tones but share the same graceful appearance. Orioles feed on insects, fruits, and nectar, often visiting flowering trees and feeders. Active and agile, they are frequently seen flitting through the canopy in search of food.
