The Shining Honeycreeper (Cyanerpes lucidus) is a small, dazzling tropical bird found in Costa Rica and other parts of Central America. It inhabits humid forests, forest edges, and gardens, feeding mainly on nectar, fruits, and small insects. The species shows striking sexual dimorphism. The male has brilliant iridescent blue plumage, a black face mask, greenish wings, and bright yellow legs, creating one of the most spectacular color combinations among Costa Rican birds. The female is much more subdued, with greenish-yellow plumage, a pale throat, and less conspicuous markings, providing better camouflage while nesting. Both sexes are active foragers often seen moving rapidly through the canopy.
