Lions in Kenya are known as East African lions or Masai lions. There are approximately 2,000 to 2,500 wild lions inhabiting grasslands, savannas and woodlands in national parks and reserves. They are at the top of of predator and are highly social cats forming pride for collaboration. Female lions hunt and care for their cubs, and male lions mark and guard their territory.

I was expecting to see lions chasing/hunting animals, but no luck. And sadly, we observed that the lions seemed to have lost their feral nature and seemed to have no interest in the people in the cars or even the small animals around them. Even when a lion was nearby, the little animal seemed unafraid. Most of the kings we saw were lazy, lying on the ground in pairs and with their families. I think the loss of wildness is attributable to the comfort of living in a reserve without harsh environment. Although these kings lacked the momentum seen in the movie “The Lion King”, their majesty cannot be concealed in the hot sun or sunset, so it is not an exaggeration to call them animal kings locked in the grassland.
