New England farms have a long history. Before European settlers arrived in the region, native Indians already had quite sophisticated agriculture system. Due to poor soil and rocky lands, farming in New England has been difficult. Because of this, easily growing Corn has been the major crop, but currently the farms can produce everything from milk and meats to berries and vegetables – 50 percent of the dairy products and 40 percent of the vegetables consumed in the region.

Currently, there are about 33000 farms in entire New England area, and in Massachusetts alone, it is about 7200.   Driving on Highway 84, RTEs 22, 41 and 46, one can easily see all kinds of farms scattering in the hills and slop, but rarely in flat land. The scenes around the farms are beautiful, irrespective of seasons, spring, summer, fall or winter.  A notable scenario is that one may not see farmers in the farm land, but you can always see horses, cattle, cows, chicken, maybe sheep.

This is a farm sided by Route 41, probably in Connecticut. This beauty can only been seen at Fall.
